Katherine Harris: Separation of church and state 'a lie' God picks our rulers

Do you know who U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris is?
Well you would remember her as the lady who single-handedly put George Bush in office back in 2000. This was the lady who was in charge of the recount in Florida or the lack there of. Well recently in an interview with a Jesus freak magazine Harris said that the separation of church and state is a lie because God is the one who chooses our rulers.
"We have to have the faithful in government and over time," the Florida Baptist Witness quotes Harris as saying, "that lie we have been told, the separation of church and state, people have internalized, thinking that they needed to avoid politics and that is so wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."
Great. Doesn't that just create even more questions?
Like why did God pick Hitler to rule Germany?
God picked Richard Nixon? Ronald Reagan?
God picked Bill Clinton? I always suspected that, but it feels good to have that confirmed by Ms. Harris.
See Katherine Harris is losing her bid for the US Senate. Initially, I am sure her advisors were telling her to taper her ignorance in order to not alienate the moderate vote, but as she is falling further and further behind Bill Nelson, she is thinking that tapering her message is the reason she is behind.
If she wants to get back into the race she needs to let both barrels of weirdness go blazing at once.
Big mistake.
My question is, when are the American people going to get tired of this fad in politics where the more ignorant you are the more qualified you must be to make decisions regarding how the state should be run?
Seriously people how Taliban is this?
In the same interview Katherine Harris also warned that if voters do not send Christians to office, they risk creating a government that is doomed to fail.
"If you are not electing Christians, tried and true, under public scrutiny and pressure, if you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," she said.
Substitute Christians for Muslims and that statement could’ve been said by any fundamentalist Imam in the middle-east.
This is the most embarrassing thing about this war…its Christian demagogy verses the Muslim demagogy.
As far as I can tell this is a real life clone war. Forget George Lucas, everyone on both sides of this thing are the same.
Her stance on civil rights also reflected the self-contradictory perspective of the extreme right.
"Civil rights have to do with individual rights and I don't think they apply to the gay issues. I have not supported gay marriage and I do not support any civil rights actions with regard to homosexuality."
Ok, so I guess gays are not individuals? Come again?
How can civil rights apply to race, religion, creed, and gender but not sexual orientation? I guess it must be because sexual orientation is a choice, like Katherine Harris must’ve CHOSEN to be a heterosexual.
I guess she could’ve just as easily CHOSEN to eat pussy. By that rational, it is wrong to discriminate against religion because the religion you follow isn’t a choice.
The idea is that it isn't ok to discrininate against people who had no control over their circumstance. You can't discriminate against people because of their race, gender, creed, ethnicity and so fourth because they had no control over that.
But we also say you can't discriminate against people because of their religion but that is totally your choice.
Well if its wrong to discriminate against someone who choses to worship God in a way that is different than ours then why is it Ok to discriminate against someone who choses sexual partners differently than we do?
Do conservatives believe that no one chooses to believe in Jesus, Allah, Yahweh or Buddha. That you can’t help what religion you follow?
Or actually is it even worse than that?
Is the truth of the matter that the far right thinks its ok to discriminate against anyone that isn't english speaking, devotely Christian, Anglo-Saxon?
Personally, the last one gets my vote.
Once again, if you substitue english speaking with Arabic speaking, devotely Christian with Muslim and Anglo-Saxon with Middle-Eastern then again, we sound very Taliban don't we?
One thing she said in the interview that was pretty accurate.
And she should know, better than anyone us.
"Florida is the forerunner state. ...[W]hat happens in Florida sets the trend for what happens nationally. And with this election, if Bill Nelson wins, it’s going to be a very frightening proposition in 2008 in the presidential elections because whoever wins Florida will win the presidency."
That is pretty much how it happened. She made sure that votes were never counted so that Bush would win Florida which is why he won the presidency.
As florida goes so does the presidency.
Affordable gasoline will never be a reality in my life again.
So again, following her logic, if Bill Nelson wins, then he wins because God picked him to win. That is part of his plan. So what is the big deal?
Have a little faith Katherine.
